Examples:

I am in the car. Je suis dans la voiture [je swee dawn la vwature]
I am on the car. Je suis sur la voiture [soor]
I am under the car. Je suis sous la voiture [soo]

Infinitives & Prepositions

In our grammatical denominations on page 44, the verb is called infinitive when it is at a standstill in it's neutral form and is very often followed by a preposition, as follows:

to ask demander à [demanday a]
to tell dire à [dear a]
to forbid defendre à [defondr]
to obey obeir à [obeer]
to allow permettre à [permetr]
to resemble ressembler à [resomblay]
to touch toucher à [toochay]
to play (game) jouer à [jeway]
to play (instrument) jouer de

Examples :

I ask my brother to play. Je demande à mon frère de jouer. [Je demand a mon frare de jooay]
He says hello to Bertie. Il dit bonjour à Berti. [Il dee bonjure a Berti]
I forbid the dog to go inside the house, Je défend au chien d' aller dans la maison. [Je defaund aw sheen de allay dawn la mayson]
He obeys his master. Il obeit à son maitre. [il obay a son maytr]
We allow our daughter to go to the cinema. Nous permettons à notre fille d'aller au cinema. [Noo permayton a notra fee dalay o cinema]
